Located by the entrance of Bur Juman, 800 Degrees is an innovative pizza concept imported from LA. Just like you would order a Subway sandwich, this pizza place lets you pick a base and a variety of toppings for your pizza. It is then cooked (at 800 degrees, no less) in an oven lined with almond bark. As the manager Gayan explains, it adds a different element of taste to the dish.
F.C. and I started off with the stuffed ricotta cheese bread with kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, rosemar and garlic. Flavourful in every bite, this was possibly my favourite dish of the night.
This is a place that offers a “gluten free” crust amongst their options; but it is only 95% gluten-free. This rules out the pizza for celiac sufferers. The crust is quite yummy. Both F.C. and I ordered gluten-free crusts for our pizzas. Because F.C. loves cheese so much, he ordered the classic quattro formaggi with smoked provolone, gorgonzola, parmigiano reggiano and fontina cheeses. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
I on the other hand preferred the special called ‘Tartufo.’ Hey, it’s truffle season, so why not? (Even though fun fact…truffle oil actually has no truffle in it.) The tartufo had pecorino romano, fontina cheese, arugula, mushrooms, roasted garlic and truffle oil. Delish.
For dessert, F.C. absolutely devoured the tiramisu. Overall, good nosh and not too pricey. However, I find that not many people have fallen for the original concept of creating their pizza and taking it to go. They prefer the dine in experience.
