India has so many hiking spots and trail routes that one can go onto. It could take years to complete the trails and hiking routes. One can go on these trails on the basis of days they have and the endurance it takes.

Every corner of India has some or the other trail that one can hike onto. Below, I am listing down my top 10 hiking spots in India, complete with a range of difficulty level and duration.

1. Triund

Triund lies in Himachal Pradesh near Dharamshala. It’s the easiest hike on this list of the best 10 hiking spots in India. This hike is best advised for beginner trekkers in India. You can either camp here or come back down on the same day. From Triund, you can see the Dhauladhar Range at one side and Kangra Valley on the other. Here, both the sunrise and the sunset will take your breath away and the gorgeous marble like peaks is truly lovely.

Duration: Takes about four hours to reach.

2. Rupin Pass

Rupin Pass passes through several meadows, and at every turn, the landscape changes completely. The most interesting thing about it is that it starts in one state and end in another. You start the trek in Uttarakhand and end it in Himachal Pradesh. You will also enjoy numerous waterfalls and glaciers on the way. Please note that one needs a tour operator to go on this trek.

Duration: A week

Difficulty level: Moderate to hard

3. Kedarkanta

Kedarkantha is famous for its snow trails and the view of upper Himalayan ranges. It lies the state of Uttarakhand and the base camp is Sankri. You need to camp and hike in the snow during the winter season. Lying at an altitude of 12,500 feet, Kedarkantha lies in the Uttarkashi region and takes three to four days to complete the entire circuit till Sankri. There are many tour operators who undertake guided treks to this place, which is the third on our top 10 hiking spots in India list.

Duration: 3 to 4 days

Difficulty level: Moderate to hard

4. Kheerganga

Kheerganga ranks often on the most loved top 10 hiking areas in India by most of us. This trek for some reason is particularly popular with Israeli travellers, not just because of the greenery or the mountains, but many people go for its ‘herbs’. The Kheerganga trek begins from Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. After reaching Kheerganga, you can enjoy the hot springs. It really helps to relax your muscles after a long trek. Camping was allowed here earlier – however, due to ecological imbalance, the camps have been banned.

Duration: 5-6 hours

5. Roopkund trek

Roopkund trek is a six-day trek amidst the meadows in Uttarakhand. Through this trek, you will attain a height of 16,000 feet straight from 8,000 feet. You will also come across several alpine stretches here and would be able to witness many famous peaks such as Mount Trishul, Neelkanth peak, Kedarnath, etc. It also takes you through forests of fir, rhododendron, and oak.

Duration: 6 days

Difficulty level: Moderate to hard

6. Winch Camp

Winch Camp is one of those lesser-known treks in Himachal Pradesh. One can reach this place either through Joginder Nagar or through Barot, a small hamlet that is not known to many people right now. Here, you will see the best sunrise and sunset so I would really advise you to camp here even though you can go descend from here on the same day itself.

Duration: 1 day

Difficulty level: Easy

7. Chadar Trek

Chadar trek opens only for a month in the entire year. Chadar means ice and as the name says you have to hike on ice. In January Zanskar river of Ladakh in Kashmir freezes and at that time many hikers dare to walk on it for a week. You will be able to witness spectacular views from here, as well as some frozen waterfalls.

Duration: 1 week

Difficulty level: Hard

8. Prashar Lake

Prashar Lake in Himachal Pradesh is considered a holy lake. The lake also has a small island that moves as well. Furthermore, no one knows the depth of this lake and the locals believe that the lake has no end. The trek to Prashar is although easy but difficult to figure as the trails are not properly defined. However, if you want to avoid the hike, you can also take a bus directly to Prashar Lake.

9. Dhankar Lake

Dhankar Lake lies in the upper Himalayan ranges at an elevation of 4,200 metres. This lake is surrounded with white snow mountains. It takes an hour to reach this place from Dhankar Village. It beholds one of the most spectacular sights in Spiti Valley. However, it is not allowed to camp here, so you have to descend from here on the same day itself.

Duration: A day

10. Khaliya Top

Khaliya Top lies in the Uttarakhand region in the Munsiyari town. From Munsiyari, you can see the famous peaks called Panchchuli Peaks. Panchchuli means ‘Chuli’ which means cooking hearths. It is said that in the Hindu mythology, Pandavas of Mahabharata stopped here to cook food for themselves before going to heaven. Khaliya Top is a hike from where these peaks can be seen even more clearly. It takes about two hours to reach to the top and if you want you can camp here or descend back at the same day.
